The group started in a small village in South Bucks in about 1982. It was called "The Seer Green Suzuki Group" and had about eight founder members, most of whom attended the village school at Seer Green.

By 1988 it had about 40 members and the group's name was changed to Jordan Junior Strings as Elaine's surname was Jordan at that time. By coincidence the group lessons were held at Jordans, a neighbouring village, and many people mistakenly thought that the group owed its name to that.

In 1989 David Shirt, the proprietor of the local music shop and an accomplished violinist himself, agreed to coach the older children as a chamber group and called this group "Seer Strings". They met regularly in Seer Green at one of the pupils' homes. David arranged the first big London Concert at St. John's, Smith Square for both Jordan Junior Strings and Seer Strings and in the week leading up to this performance Jordan Junior Strings appeared on Blue Peter. You can view a video of that appearance here.

David Shirt went on to arrange a tour of Austria and Hungary for both groups. Elaine gave a teaching demonstration at the Kodaly Institute in Hungary and the two groups also appeared on Hungarian television.

After that, Jordan Junior Strings gave about eleven annual concerts in The Purcell Room on the South Bank and at St. John's, Smith Square.

They also played to the American Ambassador at Winfield House, about four times for his birthday, for important dinners and for his farewell party when many members of the government and royalty were present.

They have been on tour to Italy in 2000 and Spain in 2002 where they performed at the Alhambra Palace in Granada and several other prestigious venues in Spain.

In recent years the group have played regularly to Tony Blair and his family at Christmas parties at Chequers - about eight times in all and they hope to continue to do so now that he is no longer in office.
